Gallery of Guilt

There was a showing of a new art piece at the museum last night, while at the banquet there was a a murder and you have to go around the banquet area and see if you can solve the murder. Gallery of Guilt was an analogue puzzle game that was made for Bradley University IM department's Fuse showcase in 2024 that would have different crime scene investigation areas set up around the museum.

What did I do?

This project was fully analog so I was not able to work on programming so I got to work on design for this project. I worked on a station that would have a custom painting on display for the puzzle that people would have to use to solve the case

The Puzzle Process

I had one other person help me design the station, we worked together on making the station. We knew we wanted to make it so that the player was required to use a painting for the puzzle, so we wanted to find a puzzle flow that we thought would be good. We thought to start with the plaque for the painting that would guide you to a specific line in the book which would guide you to the painting which then takes you to the item that belongs to the killer.

Puzzle finished

We wanted to have some theming when we wanted this to feel like it was set in the past so we had some props that we got from some antique stores to add as other objects around the painting so that we could make the item fit in.

What did I learn?

This was new to me because this was a time that I was on a project where I was only doing design and it was interesting. this has taught me that you need to be careful when making puzzles because it is quite easy to over think the puzzles if they are too easy so you need to strike a good balance of simplicity and difficulty to make it simple for the most amount of people

Where to get

This game was only available to play during Fuse 2024
